Access to the internet at Hennepin County Library is available to anyone with a valid library card registered in the system or with a temporary internet use number. Sign up is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations may only be made in-person.
Free access to online library resources and the Internet is available at all Library computer workstations.
Library users can also bring their own laptop computers to any library location and use free wireless Internet access.
Workstations are equipped with software that filters out pornography. Adults may request that the filter be disabled. Ask at the Information Desk for assistance.
Services offered at all libraries:
word processing (MS Word 2002)
presentation software (MS Powerpoint 2002) (except Osseo Library)
laser printing (no iron-on transfers in printers, please! This can result in damage to the printer.)
users may download to disk, USB drive, or burn to CD.
Computer Labs and Technology Centers at the Brookdale, Eden Prairie, Franklin, Hosmer, Ridgedale and Southdale libraries also offer spreadsheet, database and presentation software (Microsoft Office). Users can scan documents..
The following portable applications are supported on public workstations:
Portable Firefox versions: 1.0.8, 1.5.0.6 and 1.5.0.7.
Portable Office version: 2.0.3.
Notes:
For security reasons, running a portable version of Firefox will open the version of Firefox actually installed on the computer. However, the bookmarks found on the portable device will be used.
Supported portable applications are updated twice a year, in February and August.
